Threaded Flange Materials & Grades

Threaded flanges are available in a variety of materials. These materials must meet the standards. The material should also meet the quality specified by ASTM or ASME standards. The thickness and inner diameter of the flange depend on the size of the pipe for which this Threaded flange is manufactured.

Carbon steel flanges are commonly used manufacturing materials for Threaded flanges. You can choose the appropriate material according to the medium of the pipeline. You can choose ASTM A105 for normal temperature, ASTM A350 for low temperature, and ASTM A694 for high temperature.

Flanges are available in a variety of grades, such as ASME B16 5, ASME B16 47 “A” series and “B” series to meet the needs of customers and industries.

What is Threaded Flanges

Threaded flanges are non-welded flanges that attach to pipes using threads. The procedure converts the flange’s inner hole into pipe threads, allowing for threaded pipe connections without the need for welding.

Threaded flanges are easy to install and maintain, require no welding, and are suitable for pipelines where welding is not permitted on-site. The additional torque generated on the cylinder or pipe when the flange is deformed is minimal. However, the flange is thicker and more expensive, making it suitable for high-pressure pipeline connections.

ASME/ANSI B16.5 Threaded Flanges are widely used in low-pressure piping systems, as no welding is involved while connecting the flanges to pipes or other equipment. However, the Female Threaded flange may be welded around the joint after assembly, but it is not considered a satisfactory method of increasing its applications.

Threaded connections are almost the polar opposite of flange connections. Rather than fitting pieces together using multiple parts, threaded connections are rimmed with matching grooves, one on the outside of a piece and the other on the inside.

The key types of flanges are the welding neck, long welding neck, slip-on, socket weld, lap joint, and threaded, and blind flanges. In addition to these standard flanges, some special ones exist, called Weldoflange/Nipoflange and Elboflange, swivel flange, expander/reducer flange, and orifice flanges.

A union is a threaded fitting that allows the pipework to be separated and reconnected without any horizontal movement in the pipe. It can be a standalone pipe fitting connecting two pieces of pipe, or an integral part of another fitting (such as a ball valve) that allows it to be separated.

Threaded connections are often referred to as a process connection type. For Dwyer product specifications, this connection type is typically NPT (National Pipe Thread), which is an American standard thread. These connections allow products to be installed directly into piping or with the use of threaded fittings.
