France Project Case | EN 1092-1 PN40 DN40 SS316 Threaded Flange for Industrial Sampling Equipment
Project details
French manufacturer of industrial sampling equipment ordered a batch of EN 1092-1 DN40 PN40 stainless steel threaded flanges for use in high-precision fluid sampling systems. The flanges were manufactured with a raised face (RF) and a 1/4″ FNPT female thread in the center to accommodate sampling probes. Each flange was supplied with an EN 10204 3.1 Material Certificate to meet the customer’s documentation requirements.
Customer Drawings
The cuThe customer supplied detailed engineering drawings before production. All flange dimensions, pressure ratings, thread specifications and material requirements had to comply with European industrial standards and match the installation requirements of the sampling equipment.
The project specified an EN 1092-1 DN40 PN40 RF flange with a centrally machined 1/4″ FNPT female thread for sampling probe installation.
Material selection was equally important. The flanges had to be manufactured from forged SS316 (1.4404) stainless steel, and every production batch required an individual EN 10204 3.1 Material Certificate covering chemical composition, mechanical properties and heat number traceability.
Dimensional accuracy extended to the flange outside diameter, bolt circle, bolt holes, flange thickness, raised face dimensions and thread depth. Inspection records for every finished flange were requested before shipment. The customer also required a mirror-polished surface free from scratches, pits, burrs and impact marks to suit corrosive chemical service.
Production began only after the drawings and technical specifications had been reviewed and approved by both engineering teams.
Inspection Records
Our engineering department completed two rounds of drawing verification before releasing the order to production. After machining, every flange was inspected with calibrated digital calipers, and dimensional records were retained as part of the production file.
Measured dimensions:
- Outside diameter: 150.58 mm (Nominal 150 mm, within specified tolerance)
- Bolt circle diameter (PCD): 110.21 mm
- Raised face outside diameter: 70.17 mm
- Bolt hole diameter: 18.11 mm
- Flange body thickness: 15.46 mm
- Raised face height: 32.50 mm
- Center thread: 1/4″ FNPT Female Thread
Inspection results showed excellent conformity with the EN 1092-1 drawing. The FNPT thread was produced using dedicated precision threading equipment, providing a complete thread profile and reliable sealing performance for high-pressure sampling applications.
Production
Forged SS316 (1.4404) stainless steel was inspected before machining. Optical emission spectroscopy verified the chemical composition, including chromium, nickel and molybdenum content, before the material entered production.
CNC machining completed the flange facing, raised face profile, bolt holes and all critical dimensions. A dedicated threading machine produced the 1/4″ FNPT female thread with consistent accuracy and thread quality. Multiple polishing operations created a mirror surface finish that improved corrosion resistance for chemical processing environments and long-distance marine transportation.
Quality control covered the entire production process. Digital calipers were used to verify the outside diameter, bolt holes, flange thickness and raised face dimensions of every finished flange. Inspection photographs and measurement records were archived for traceability.
Random samples underwent hydrostatic pressure testing to verify compliance with the PN40 pressure rating and confirm leak-free sealing around the threaded connection.
After inspection, the quality department issued an individual EN 10204 3.1 Material Certificate for the production batch, including heat number identification, chemical composition and mechanical property data. Before packaging, inspectors removed any components showing scratches, burrs, dimensional deviation or other cosmetic defects. Throughout manufacturing, production photographs, machining progress and dimensional inspection records were shared regularly with the customer for project tracking.
Packing for France
The shipment was prepared for combined ocean freight from China to Europe followed by inland transportation within France. Each flange was individually wrapped with protective stretch film to prevent moisture exposure, oxidation and surface damage during transport.
The products were packed in export cartons with sufficient spacing between components to minimize movement and impact during shipping. The outer cartons were sealed against moisture and marked with the product model, specification and country of origin.
Every shipment included a complete documentation package consisting of:
- English Packing List
- EN 10204 3.1 Material Certificate
- Commercial Invoice
- Dimensional Inspection Report
Electronic copies of the packing photographs and shipping documents were provided before dispatch, allowing the customer to prepare for customs clearance and incoming inspection.
Customer Feedback
The shipment arrived in France without transport damage and completed customs clearance without documentation issues. Incoming inspection confirmed that all flange dimensions matched the approved EN 1092-1 drawings. The 1/4″ FNPT female thread assembled directly with the customer’s sampling probes and achieved reliable sealing under PN40 operating conditions without leakage.
The mirror-polished SS316 surface remained free from corrosion, scratches and handling damage after international transportation.
The complete documentation package, including the EN 10204 3.1 Material Certificate, Packing List and inspection records, met the customer’s quality management and import requirements.
Following installation on the customer’s industrial sampling systems, the flanges were approved for use across multiple equipment models. Repeat orders for additional EN 1092-1 stainless steel flanges in different sizes have continued since the first shipment.
